ELM MOTT — Seven was a lucky number for Eric Jones on Friday night.

The former Killeen resident started seventh in the IMCA Stock Car feature at Heart O’ Texas Speedway and methodically picked off opponents in the 15-car event, then passed race leader Justin McCullough on lap seven for the lead.

Jones, racing out of Troy and a former multiyear class champion at Killeen’s Texas Thunder Speedway, held off a hard charging Damon Hammond for his first 2016 win at the Elm Mott oval.

Jones is ranked fourth in the IMCA Stock Car national standings.
