ELM MOTT — Belton racer G.W. Egbert might as well move a recliner and TV set into the Winner’s Circle at Heart O’ Texas Speedway, as much time as he’s been spending there lately.
For the second straight week, Egbert’s No. 717 started Friday night’s 18-car IMCA Southern SportMod feature race from the pole and forged a full straightaway lead while cars were bouncing off each other behind him.
Lap seven found the field pulled back together by a caution flag when Waco driver Blaine Simcik’s 4D4 went airborne and into a barrel roll entering turn three. Simcik was OK and walked away from the mishap as drivers reassembled to go again.
On the restart, Egbert rapidly ran away and had another full straightaway lead by lap 11 of the 20-circuit event and cruised to Victory Lane.
He wasn’t through yet.
In the SportMod King of the Hill tournament, a series of two-lap sprints, Egbert outlasted all challengers and bested the 17 car of Elm Mott driver Jeff Shepperd in the finals, giving Egbert a year’s worth of bragging rights.
