ELM MOTT — After Friday night’s qualifying runs, two local drivers survived Saturday night finals to win top spots and top money in the second annual IMCA Texas Nationals at Heart O’ Texas Speedway.

The IMCA Modified feature paid $1,500 to win and Killeen’s J.P. Dowell went after it with a vengeance. Starting up front as the green flag waved, Dowell spurred his No. 715 car to an early lead he would not give up until all 25 laps were in the books.

Belton racer Charles Cosper took a little longer to make his move in the IMCA Stock Car main event. Cosper took the green in third place and had moved up to second spot by lap four, when race leader Ryan Powers spun in front of the field. The incident gave Cosper’s 33c car the lead, which he held through three caution flags over the final 16 laps.

Cosper’s win netted him a $1,000 payday.
