For a pair of District 25-3A rivals, that last taste of high school competition was certainly one to remember — even if it didn’t end with a win.

Less than a month away from beginning their college volleyball careers, Lampasas’ Madison Morris and Salado’s Jenna Sebek participated in the Texas Girls Coaches Association All-Star 1A-2A-3A volleyball game Wednesday evening at the Delco Center in Austin. “It hadn’t really sunk in yet that I’m officially done with high school things, but it’s exciting, this was an experience of a lifetime,” said Morris, who will start at the University of Texas-El Paso in early August. “It was really awesome and I’m so honored I got chosen for it.”

Sebek, who recently finished her first semester of summer classes at Navarro College, was happy to get one final taste of high school before her college season officially starts Aug. 2.

“It was like a good way to go out, I guess, to be done with high school,” Sebek said.“It was just really fun, and I had really wanted to make the all-star team.” Morris and Sebek were members of the West team that fell to the East squad 25-20, 25-16, 15-25, 25-21. Morris contributed five kills, three blocks and three digs.

“We started off slow in the first game — we were really jittery and nervous — then we picked it up in the third game, and then the other team (countered),” Morris said. “We were pretty much even the whole time, but (the East) ended up pulling through.”Morris admitted she was one of the most nervous of the bunch, competing along side many top-tier players like Texas Tech signee Breeann David of 2A Denver City.

“I’ve never done anything like that before, and for me, I was super nervous,” said an admittedly intimidated Morris.

But despite the nerves, Morris is looking forward to what comes next.

“I’m getting more and more excited with every day, but it’s going to be hard when I first get down there,” Morris said of UTEP.  “I’m very family oriented — I stay home most of the time — so it’s going to be a big change, but I think I’m ready.”
