SALADO – It is official. The Salado girls basketball program has a new coach.

Jeanette McKinney became the third Lady Eagles hoops coach in as many seasons when she was approved by the Salado ISD school board at Monday night's meeting.

McKinney comes to Salado from Schreiner University in Kerrville, and replaces Randy Henderson, who led the Lady Eagles to a 27-10 record and a berth in the Class 2A state tournament during his only season at Salado.

"We're excited to have Jeanette on board with us," said Salado Athletic Director Jeff Cheatham. "She brings a lot of basketball experience to the table as well as good experience in the classroom. Getting someone in here with experience at the college level is always a big plus."

McKinney was the head coach at Schreiner for four seasons. She also had stints at Tomball Concordia Lutheran as a head coach from 1998-2001 before joining the Concordia-Austin staff between 2002-05.

McKinney now has one of the most envied jobs in girls basketball as Salado returns four starters from last year's team – Brennan Boydstun, two-time District 25-2A Most Valuable Player Hadley Joiner, Billi Pipes and Jenna Sebek. The quartet of returning starters also has two years of eligibility remaining because they are all juniors.

"Jeanette is not only getting a good group of basketball players, she's also getting a good group of all-around athletes," Cheatham said.

Boydstun and Joiner also were members of Salado's regional finalist volleyball team and the girls golf team, which took third in the state, and Sebek also played on the volleyball team.
