Waco Midway soccer is in its own league. When the Panthers move to 5A next season, Gatesville and Salado will have their opportunities to make District 34-4A their league in 2013.
Salado sophomores Josh Rogers and Chase Crenwelge were voted District 34-4As defensive MVP and co-newcomer of the year, respectively, when the all-district teams were released on Monday. Gatesville juniors Sebastian Corrales and Aaron Fuster were the districts mid-fielder and goalkeeper MVPs.
The Eagles, in their first season with a soccer program, went 14-10 overall, finished second to Midway in 34-4A and won their first-round playoff game behind Rogers, Crenwelge.
The duo shared the newcomer award with Lorena senior fisher Simpson and a host of first- and second-team selections that will be returning next season.
Sophomores Daniel Lemus, Dennie Barker, Clayton Cole and Tristan Bragg along with junior Patrick Murray were all first teamers for Salado.
The Eagles also had five on the second team and all but senior Kelly Jimenez return next season when Midway and Killeen both move up to 5A.
Killeen seniors Marvin Henderson and Juan Alemida and juniors Daniel Carrizales and Dominic Dunga were first-team selections for the Roos, who finished as 34-4As third-place team.
Gatesville, despite winning just four of 12 district games, finished fifth in 34-4A behind Corrales, Fuster and first teamers Franco Vega and Rafael Reza.
Lampasas freshman Nick Lawson was the Badgers only first-team selection. Midway senior Kyle Baccus was the district MVP and sophomore Leo Peralta was the offesive MVP. Midway coach Tim OLeary was the districts coach of the year.
The Panthers finished their season Friday after their only loss of the season, a 3-2 overtime loss to Friendswood in the Region IV-4A final.
