While fourth- and sixth-place finishes, respectively, for the girls and boys track teams weren't what Shoemaker was shooting for at the District 13-5A meet on April 14, several Grey Wolf individuals qualified for the regional meet in Waco via top-three finishes.

Donte Whiting's throw of 49 feet, 3 inches earned him a third-place finish in the shot put and a subsequent trip to regionals on April 29.

The boys 400-meter relay team of Jamaal Skipper, Bloomfield Yarborough, Contrevious Parks and Daron Thomas finished third with a time of 41.99 seconds, seven-tenths of a second out of first place. Yarborough's third-place in the 200 earned him another entry at regionals.

Kelvin Myles' 2:02.25 time in the 800 was good enough for third as was Courtland Akinloye's 14.73-second run in the 110 high hurdles.

Of the girls, Denise Brown's second in the 400 was the highest individual finish for a Lady Grey Wolf, finishing with a time of 60.27 seconds.

The 1,600 relay team of Brown, Cita Medina, Kesha Brewer and Lacey Morrison finished third in 4:05.01.

Medina, Bond, Kenyetta Fusilier and Melissa Johnson's time of 1:43.62 also earned them a trip to Waco, good for a third-place finish in the 800 relay.

Five Shoemaker girls earned all-district honors for their play in 13-5A, including the entire starting midfield.
