Softball/Soccer Roundup: Lady Roos run-rule Shoemaker 15-0

The Killeen Lady Roos pounded out 10 hits and Olivia Lacewell pitched a one-hitter, striking out seven, as they shut out Shoemaker 15-0 to start the softball season.

Leslie James, Erica Travis and Layna Musser all had two hits and two RBI for Killeen in its season opener.

Cameron Yoe 8, Harker Heights 7 - At Cameron, Leanna Howard went 2-for-4 with a double, triple and two RBIs and Heights rallied for three runs in the seventh, but still fell to Cameron Yoe.

Pflugerville Hendrickson 5, Lampasas 3 - At Pflugerville, Lampasas took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but a three-run fifth doomed the Lady Badgers to a season-opening loss.

Kady Crow, Kelsi Gilseth and Hadley Brown all had RBIs for Lampasas.

Ellison 7, Academy 3 - At Academy, Eryn Morrison went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a double as the Lady Eagles opened the season with a win.

Alyssa Castro added three hits and had an RBI and a run for Ellison.

Gatesville 7, Liberty Hill 6 - At Liberty Hill, the Hornets scored three runs in the top of the seventh for a comeback win over the Lady Panthers.

Down 3-0 in the third, Gatesville went ahead 4-3 as Megan Chambers, Ashley Cook, Jaycee Summers and Lauren Nichols all scored runs in the third. Freshman Evan Edmiston had two RBIs, picked up win on the mound. In the seventh, Allie Aslin walked, Edmiston singled and then. Paige Chambers walked to load the bases. Latham then slapped a two-run single to center field to tie it. Nichols had an RBI single to put the Hornets ahead.

Elgin 13, Belton 0 - At Belton, the Lady Tigers season got off a to a rough start as they gave up five runs in the fourth and eight more in the seventh.

BOYS SOCCER

Waco Midway 9, Gatesville 0 - At Midway, Gatesville was unable to staunch the leak that was its defense, allowing a litany of Panthers to score on an average of once every five minutes. The Hornets bring their 5-5-1, 1-2 34-4A, record on the road when they face Cameron Yoe on Friday.

Harker Heights 4, Ellison 0 - At Ellison, Michael McNamara had two goals and Nicholas Merutka had five saves as the Knights shut out Ellison.

McNamara scored his first goal off a through ball from Jordan Foster. Adrian Morris and Carlos Cacho also scored in the win.

Salado 1, Lorena 0 - At Lorena, the Eagles scored the only goal they needed late in the second half on a Chase Crenwelge attempt.

Crenwelge aimed low and into the corner of the goal and the ball inched past the outstretched hand of the Lorena goalie.

The Eagles improved to 7-7 and 3-0 in District 34-4A. Salado hosts Midway on Friday night.

GIRLS

Ellison 2, Harker Heights 2, tie - At Harker Heights, Shelby Townsend scored two goals off of corner kicks from Brooke Guerrero as Ellison (3-3-3, 0-2-2 12-5A) jumped out a to a 2-0 lead over the Lady Knights.

However, Heights (5-5-2, 1-2-1) got goals in the 58th and 71st minute to tie the game.

Lampasas 3, Robinson 1 - At Lampasas, Bailey Hilgenberg, Dreu Dekort and Analise Watson each scored a goal and the Lady Badgers remained atop the 34-4A standings.

Lampasas (12-3-1, 3-0) led all the way after Hilgenberg opened the scoring in the 19th minute. Dekort extended the lead to 2-0 by curling in a corner kick inside the far post in the 26th minute.

Robinson (8-5-1, 1-1) cut the lead in half in the second half, but Watson added to the Lady Badgers' cushion with her 19th goal of the season with 11:14 remaining.

Belton 4, Temple 1 - Hadley Young and Kat Parker each scored a goal in the first and second half as the Lady Tigers (10-3-1, 4-0 12-5A) defeated the Tem-Cats (8-4-2, 2-2).

Young, who is nine goals away from the Belton school record, also had both assists to Parker.

Lorena 8, Salado 0 - At Lorena, the Lady Eagles had numerous defensive meltdowns that led to eight unanswered goals for Lorena.

Salado fell to 2-13-1 and 0-3 in District 34-4A. The Lady Eagles travel to Midway on Friday.
