The Tigers have a little more than a week to figure out what went wrong Monday night.
Belton led 51-43 with seven minutes left, but never scored again, falling 56-51 at Stephenville in the Tigers' final nondistrict game before their District 12-5A opener next week.
The Tigers (4-9) host Shoemaker next Tuesday in their district openers. Following the Christmas holiday, Belton plays in the Leander tournament before really getting into its 12-5A schedule at home against rival Temple.
"I actually see it (the wait) as a good thing," Belton coach John Osborn said. "We should've won this game - had it won - and we let it get away from us. We've got a week to rebound and let it go and get ready for the first district game."
Daniel Mills scored a game-high 24 points and Justin Owens added 12 for the Tigers, who scored eight points in their first three fourth-quarter possessions before going ice-cold.
"We didn't handle the ball very good out on the outside," Osborn said. "Even without scoring from the seven minute mark to 3:30, we still had a six-point lead, but we just couldn't close out the game,"
Arbnor Kelmendi, Miles Holstein and Stetson Sullivan each scored 10 to lead the Yellow Jackets (11-1), who won their 11th straight game since a season-opening overtime loss to San Angelo Central.
