Volleyball Roundup: Ellison loses, will face Temple in tiebreaker

The Ellison Lady Eagles were in must-win territory to assure themselves their first playoff trip since 2006, but came up on the losing end on the road, falling to A&M Consolidated 25-4, 25-19, 25-22 at College Station.

Ellison's loss, coupled with Copperas Cove beating Temple, put the Lady Eagles (17-22, 7-7 12-5A) and Tem-Cats (17-22, 7-7) in a tie for fourth place. The two entered Tuesday tied with Bryan, which swept Shoemaker to take over sole possession of third.

Ellison and Temple will have a one-game playoff for 12-5A's final spot in the postseason. The game will be played at a time, date and site to be determined.

Chelsea Grant led the Lady Eagles with 12 kills to go with eight blocks. Kortni Taylor added nine kills.

Gatesville def. China Spring 25-13, 25-8, 25-15 - At China Spring, Glynna Johnson had 18 kills and four aces, Skye Truss added 11 kills and three blocks, and setter Kaitlin Poe dished out 32 assists as the Hornets swept China Spring to finish at 9-1 in District 19-3A.

No. 10 Gatesville (34-4) tied with No. 8 Lorena atop the district, but after a tie-breaker coin flip, will be 19-3A's second seed and face Madisonville in the bi-district round of the playoffs next week at a time and place to be determined.

Liberty Hill def. Salado 25-20, 14-25, 18-25, 25-22, 15-10 - At Liberty Hill, the Lady Eagles needed to win to take second place outright in District 25-3A, however, Kirstie McGillick's 15 kills and Carling Urben's 18 digs were not enough to topple the Lady Panthers.

Salado (26-9, 7-3) finished in third place and faces Fredericksburg in the first round of the 3A playoffs.

Bryan def. Shoemaker 25-15, 25-15, 25-18 - At Bryan, the Lady Vikings clinched third place in District 12-5A with a sweep of Shoemaker, which was led by Hailee Showers with 12 kills and 11 digs.

Kiara Rawls added 16 assists and seven digs for the Grey Wolves, who finished the season 13-21 overall and 2-12 in district play.

Lexington def. Florence, 25-16, 25-16, 23-25, 25-9 - At Florence, Lauren Clark had 17 kills and 28 digs, but it was not enough to stop the Lady Buffs' District 27-2A losing streak, which reached 10.

Lauren Michalka led Florence, which finished the season 11-21 overall and 1-13 in district, with 22 assists. Senior Sam Miller added 13 digs for the Lady Buffs.

Burnet def. Lampasas - At Lampasas, the Lady Badgers pushed Burnet to five games, but the Lady Bulldogs won the finale 15-13 to end Lampasas' season.

Hailey Morrison led the Lady Badgers (2-8 19-3A) with 24 kills to go with 2½ blocks. Setter Whitney Cauthen finished with 22 assists, while Tealey Farquhar, Ashley Moore and Jenna Jenkins tallied two assists each. Mikala Hirst led the defense with 44 digs.

Burnet (18-11, 9-1) finished as the district champion.
