COPPERAS COVE - Still in contention for the Gatesville Tournament title entering today, the Lady Bulldawgs easily won their fourth straight, rolling over Killeen 25-14, 25-12, 25-12 at home Friday.
Cove senior libero Claire Taylor led the defensive performance with 16 digs, barely edging the 14 provided by junior outside hitter Brittney Johnson, while senior middle blocker Andrea Hurt led with five blocks to go along with a team-high 15 kills.
Senior setter Amy Rosenbaum had 27 assists and Arielle Garcia added three aces.
The Lady Bulldawgs (11-2) will play Lago Vista today in the semifinal of the Gatesville Tournament, with a chance to set up a rematch with the host Lady Hornets in the championship game.
Gatesville def. Huffman-Hargrave 25-10, 25-15, 25-14 - At Gatesville, Glynna Johnson had 16 kills and seven blocks as the host Hornets continued their torrid early season run.
During an off-day game between their own two-day tournament, Gatesville easily cruised as senior setter Kaitlin Poe contributed 31 assists and twins Megan and Paige Chambers combined on 12 digs.
Crawford def. Salado 25-16, 25-22, 25-23 - At Crawford, despite a season-high 23 kills from senior middle blocker Carling Urben, the Lady Eagles lost to their second 2A opponent in as many days.
Junior outside hitter Kirstie McGillick added nine kills for Salado (8-4), but no other Lady Eagle had more than two (Sarah Toler and Jenna Franz). Setter Kelsey Palomino led with 27 assists.
