Woman found dead in burned home

Killeen police found a woman dead in a home that had been burned this morning.

Officers were patrolling at 7 a.m. and heard an audible alarm in the 2700 block of Taft Street, according to police. Upon investigating the cause, officers could see through an open window and saw a woman lying unresponsive on the floor in the kitchen. The inside of the house had been burned.

Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke pronounced the victim, a white female in her mid fifties, dead at 8 a.m. An autopsy is pending at this time.

The cause of the fire and the cause of death have not been determined at the time and the victim’s identity has not been confirmed.
