Nature in Lights

The Nature in Lights drive-thru exhibit is open at Belton Lake Outdoor Recreation Area.

Many local cities and organizations are celebrating one or more holidays this year, and the Herald has collected a list of area events. The Herald will update this listing and run it multiple times during the holiday season.

Events

BLORA Nature in Lights: The annual Belton Lake Outdoor Recreation Center’s “Nature in Lights” 5.5-mile-long holiday light trail will continue until Jan. 5. The trail will be open every day from 5:30 to 11 p.m., including Christmas Eve and Christmas holidays.

Salado parade: The Salado Lighten Christmas Parade will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 5. Many of the shops throughout the village will have floats, as well as old cars and golf carts all decked out for the holidays.

Christmas on Clear Creek: The public is invited to AdventHealth Central Texas, 2201 S. Clear Creek Road in Killeen, for an event with a Christmas-tree lighting, refreshments, music, children’s entertainment, and an appearance by Santa at 6 p.m. Dec. 5. Attendees at the Christmas on Clear Creek event will have the opportunity to light a gift of love and remembrance by purchasing for $10 an ornament in honor of or in memory of a loved one. The loved one’s name will go on the ornament, and the attendee can hang it on the tree at AdventHealth.

Cove Krist Kindle Markt: The city of Copperas Cove will host the 25th annual Krist Kindle Markt on Dec. 5-8. The tree lighting ceremony and kickoff is 6-8 p.m. Dec. 5. Holiday Under the Stars: Killeen is welcoming the holiday season with its annual Holiday Under the Stars event from 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 6 at the Community Center Complex. The public is invited to join Santa and Killeen Mayor Jose Segarra light the 50-foot silhouette holiday tree at 6 p.m. then stay for photos. The evening will feature free live entertainment, a giant snow globe and holiday activities and treats. A new attraction this year is a Killeen Youth Advisory Commission Baking Competition. Food trucks and vendors will have items for purchase.

Jingle Bell Dash 5K: The Jingle Bell Dash 5K will take place at 8 a.m. Dec. 7 at Killeen Community Center. Runners can register now for $20 at https://runsignup.com/killeenjinglebelldash.

Breakfast in Toyland: The annual Breakfast in Toyland event sponsored by Globe Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association will be Dec. 7 at the Killeen Community Center from 8 to 11 a.m. The menu of pancakes, sausage, milk or juice and coffee is $5 per plate. Santa will be there and available for pictures. Toys and a girl’s and a boy’s bicycle will be given away. Please contact Linda Hutto at 254-220-0351 for more information and tickets. Killeen parade: The 57th annual Killeen Christmas Parade begins at 4:30 p.m. Dec. 14 in downtown Killeen.

Killeen Feast of Sharing: H-E-B will host the 12th annual Killeen Feast of Sharing from 4 to 8 p.m. Dec. 17 at the Killeen Civic and Conference Center, 3601 S. W.S. Young Drive. The meal is free to members of the community.

1st Cav concert: The 1st Cavalry Division band will hold one concert in Killeen and one concert in Copperas Cove for the holiday season. The concert, titled, “Christmas with the Cav,” is free and open to the public. On Dec. 19, the band will perform at Grace Christian Center, 1401 E. Elms Road, Killeen. The band will perform Dec. 20 at the Lea Ledger Auditorium in the Copperas Cove High School, 400 S. 25th St. Both concerts start at 7 p.m.

Indian Oaks event: The Indian Oaks Living Center in Harker Heights is hosting a holiday event for its residents and organizers are inviting the public to go to the nursing home and help make Christmas special for around 150 residents. The event is from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Dec. 20 at the nursing home and there will be snacks, hugs and karaoke, according to organizers. If you would like to donate to the event, call 254-291-0515 or 254-258-1773. Items to donate include new no-slip unisex socks, new Santa hats, new or used games, cards, board games, or snacks from a restaurant or pre-packaged. The nursing home is at 415 Indian Oaks Drive in Harker Heights.
