COPPERAS COVE — The Copperas Cove Chamber of Commerce is working to promote shopping at local businesses during the holiday season.

Saturday, Nov. 30 is recognized nationally as Small Business Saturday.’

“As a Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau, that’s one of our tasks, to promote that as a (big) shopping day,” said Alicia Menard, president of the Copperas Cove Chamber of Commerce.

To do that, the Chamber is bringing back a promotional passport program that encourages residents to shop local and get the chance to win prizes donated by participating business.

“What it (the passport) will do is give them a list of the participating businesses,” Menard said. “Those businesses that have registered to participate are offering various incentives and specials and deals to those who visit and purchase something,” Menard said.

The Chamber will be open from 10 a.m. to noon on Small Business Saturday to let people pick up passports and lists of the participating businesses. They will also give away goody bags with donated items from local businesses.

The passport program isn’t limited to shopping on Saturday. Anyone who makes a purchase of $5 or more at seven participating small businesses through Dec. 16 can return the passport to the Chamber and the prize giveaway.
