Post officials have identified a suspect in the shooting death of a Fort Hood soldier Friday.
Spc. Armando Baca remained in Bell County Jail on Monday. He is accused of shooting and killing Spc. Ryan Richard Schlack, 30, of Oshkosh, Wis., according to a Fort Hood news release. Jail logs listed the charge as first-degree murder.
The shooting happened at a party at the McNair Village on-post housing area. During a casual get-together on the lawn of the housing area, a soldier fired a gun into a crowd of people during an altercation, hitting Schlack in the hip.
The shooter fled and witnesses at the scene called 911. Military police responded, and Schlack was taken to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center, where he later died.
Baca was arrested at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Bernie Beck Main Gate.
Schlack was assigned to the 27th Brigade Support Battalion,
4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division.
