Daunte Cuffie helped Lampasas win a game. Then, Lampasas helped Cuffie win an award.

The Badgers senior running back crossed the goal line three times en route to a game-high 88 rushing yards last week, guiding Class 4A, Division I No. 8 Lampasas to a 56-0 victory on the road at Taylor.

The favor was returned in an equally dominant fashion as Cuffie received 416 of the 587 votes cast to capture a whopping 70.9 percent of the total vote and earn the title of KDHpressbox.com Player of the Week.

Cuffie scored in each of the first three quarters of the game, recording touchdown runs of 13, 3 and 11 yards in the shutout and improving the Badgers’ record to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in District 14-4A, Division I.

Copperas Cove senior running back Micah Cox finished second in the voting with 27.1 percent after helping keep the Bulldawgs’ playoff hopes alive with a two-touchdown showing in a 21-16 victory at Harker Heights. He ran for 205 rushing yards.

Belton quarterback Wriley Madden and Shoemaker running back Ka’Jari Herrera rounded out the nominees.

Wriley, a sophomore, completed all four of his pass attempts for 90 yards in the first start of his high school career, including a pair of touchdowns in a 14-12 win against Ellison.

Herrera, a junior, ran for a team-high 57 yards on just four carries, including a 50-yard touchdown, during a 35-15 loss against visiting Waco Midway.

The Grey Wolves quarterback, who rushed for 218 yards and two scores, completed 13 of 18 passes for 183 yards and three touchdowns, including the game-winner in overtime of a 34-28 victory at Copperas Cove.


The Eagles senior quarterback accounted for four touchdowns and helped engineer a 37-point outburst in the second quarter as Ellison completed its season with a 50-18 win against Killeen.

The Bulldawgs senior running back touched the ball 35 times, rushing for 175 yards and four touchdowns while also catching three passes for 39 yards in its home finale — a 34-28 loss in overtime to Ellison.


The Badgers senior receiver hauled in six passes for 136 yards and a touchdown and finished with four catches measuring at least 25 yards in a 56-35 victory against visiting Canyon Lake.
