Numerous area teams will take part in their final scrimmages today before opening the season next week.

Three programs will be competing locally.

Copperas Cove hosts Abilene in a scrimmage scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m., while Round Rock travels to Killeen for a 7 p.m. start at Leo Buckley Stadium, and Lampasas will face Elgin at Badger Stadium. The contest will begin at 6:30 p.m.

On the road, Harker Heights travels to compete at Brenham (6:30 p.m.), Shoemaker is scrimmaging at Kerrville Tivy (7 p.m.), and Florence is heading to Austin Regents for a 6:30 p.m. start.

The Kangaroos play the first game of their regular season schedule Thursday at home against Stony Point, while all other area teams open the season Aug. 30.


After a day of pool-play matches Thursday at the Tyler ISD Invitational, Ellison returns to the court today to do it again.

The Lady Eagles continue play at the three-day tournament with another round of pool play before being placed into a bracket based on today’s results. The tournament concludes Saturday.

Elsewhere, Copperas Cove opens its stay at the Whitney Invitational with a series of pool-play matches, and the outcomes will determine seeding for bracket play on Saturday.

Additionally, Lampasas hosts Marble Falls at 6 p.m., and Florence travels to play Taylor at 6 p.m.


At Temple, Harker Heights, Copperas Cove, Belton and Lampasas will descend on the Wildflower Country Club this morning for the Belton Invitational.

The races are set to begin at 8 a.m.

Ellison will also compete today, taking part in the Cedar Park Vista Ridge Invitational at 8 a.m.
