Copperas Cove's Micah Cox (27) carries against Burleson during the season opener Friday at Bulldawg Stadium.

Several area football teams will be looking to earn their first victory tonight, including Copperas Cove.

The Bulldawgs were stunned at home last week, giving up the game-winning touchdown in a 41-38 defeat to Burleson with 10 seconds remaining in regulation.

Playing at home for the second week in a row, Copperas Cove aims to rebound against visiting Manor. The Mustangs are coming off a 32-29 overtime loss to Weslaco East.

While the Bulldawgs might have experienced the most surprising outcome, they are not the only team still searching for a win.

Harker Heights makes its home debut against Round Rock Stony Point after falling to Round Rock 42-34 last week. The Tigers defeated Killeen 25-20 in the season opener and host Belton tonight. Belton lost 48-0 at Austin Westlake last week.

Shoemaker is District 12-6A’s lone team to enter the week with a victory following a 54-21 win against San Angelo Central, but the Grey Wolves will be challenged tonight, traveling to Midlothian. The Panthers are also 1-0 after shutting out Carrollton Creekview 30-0.

The games will serve as each team’s nondistrict finale.

Elsewhere, Lampasas looks to build on a 63-14 victory at Joshua to start the season by traveling to Lago Vista (1-0), while Salado, Florence and Gatesville try to bounce back from defeats.

The Hornets host Robinson (1-0), and Salado welcomes winless Little River Academy. Florence plays at Jarrell (0-1).

All kickoffs are scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

VOLLEYBALL

Ellison travels to Belton in a battle of first-place teams in District 12-6A.

Sporting identical 2-0 records, the winner could move into sole possession of the spot should Copperas Cove (2-0) fall at Harker Heights (0-1).

Additionally, Waco Midway (1-0) plays at Shoemaker (1-1).

The matches are set to begin at 5:30 p.m.

In other action, Gatesville plays at Burnet at 5:30 p.m., Florence plays at Jarrell at 5:30 p.m. and Lampasas hosts Clifton at 6 p.m.
