The wait is finally over.

High school football fans can rejoice because the season’s first Friday night full of games has arrived.

Nine area teams are in action, including several local games.

Shoemaker is set to host San Angelo Central at Leo Buckley Stadium. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

Elsewhere, Burleson travels to play at Copperas Cove at 7:30 p.m., Austin Savio plays at Florence (7 p.m.) and Salado will face Troy in a neutral-field contest. The squads will play at Mary Hardin-Baylor’s Crusader Stadium with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m.

Additionally, Harker Heights opens its schedule at Round Rock with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Dragon Stadium.

Ellison travels to A&M Consolidated for its first contest of the season, while Gatesville plays at Midlothian Heritage, Lampasas plays at Joshua, and Belton plays at Austin Westlake.

All four games are set to start at 7:30 p.m.


After defeating Shoemaker in its District 12-6A opener Tuesday, Copperas Cove travels to play Bastrop Cedar Creek in a nondistrict match at 6:30 p.m.

Coming off a victory against Killeen to start district, Ellison will also use its early bye date to take part in nondistrict match, hosting Pflugerville at 6:30 p.m.

Gatesville travels to play Alvarado at 4:30 p.m., and Florence begins play at the three-day Bruceville-Eddy tournament.


Five area teams will head to Temple’s Wilson Park this morning to take part in the Pro-Fit Invitational, beginning at 8 a.m.

Salado, Gatesville, Lampasas, Copperas Cove and Harker Heights will each be in attendance.

Additionally, Ellison travels to Burleson for the Elk Run XIX.
