With less than two weeks remaining in the regular season, every match matters to District 12-6A’s top four programs.
A mere two games separate the quartet of teams with Ellison and Belton on the verge of clinching the final playoff berths with victories tonight.
Winners of four consecutive matches, the Lady Eagles (10-3) travel to play first-place Waco Midway (12-1), where a victory could create a furious final push for the district championship.
Along with closing the gap between Ellison and the Pantherettes, a Lady Eagles win would also allow second-place Copperas Cove (11-2) and Belton (10-3) an opportunity to claim the title with a strong finish.
Should Midway win, Ellison would be eliminated from contention for the district championship, and the door would remain open for Shoemaker to catch the Lady Eagles for the last playoff spot.
Belton must also be victorious tonight to keep hopes of a district title alive, traveling to play Harker Heights (3-10), while Shoemaker (6-6) hosts Temple (6-8) in a must-win situation.
Rounding out the District 12-6A schedule, Killeen (1-12) plays at Copperas Cove in the Lady Bulldawgs’ last road match before embarking on their postseason run.
Waco (0-14) is on a bye.
First serve for all four matches is at 6:30 p.m.
In District 27-4A, the top two teams collide at Liberty Hill, where the No. 8 Lady Panthers (7-0) play Salado (6-1). Liberty Hill swept the first encounter Oct. 8, but the Lady Eagles have only lost two sets since.
Also, Lampasas (1-6) travels to play Taylor.
Both contests begin at 6 p.m.
Elsewhere, Gatesville looks to climb the District 18-4A standings as it hosts China Spring at 7 p.m. in a critical match. The Hornets (4-3) have already clinched a postseason berth but sit in a tie for third place with Robinson, trailing the Lady Cougars (5-3) by a game for second place
Florence is on a bye.
