After two weeks of practices, Florence, Salado, Gatesville and Lampasas are prepared to compete against new faces.
While intrasquad scrimmages were permitted last weekend, the squads will each play against an outside opponent tonight in the first of two preseason scrimmages for the programs.
The Buffaloes are set to host Brady at 6:30 p.m., while Marble Falls travels to play the Badgers (6:30 p.m.) and the Hornets play Taylor (6 p.m.) at home.
The Eagles will take to the road for a 10 a.m. scrimmage against Palestine at Waco ISD Stadium.
Harker Heights and Copperas Cove will each open play at the two-day, 32-team Allen Texas Open.
Competing in pool play, the Lady Bulldawgs are set to play three matches, facing Frisco Heritage at 10:15 a.m. before encountering Dallas Hockaday and the host Lady Eagles at 12:45 p.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.
The Lady Knights begin their day against The Woodlands at 9 a.m. before concluding with matches against Midlothian (12:45 p.m.) and Wylie East (3:15 p.m.)
Based on the results, teams will be placed in either the Champion or Challenger bracket Saturday. The squads are guaranteed at least two matches.
In closer contests, Gatesville hosts Lampasas at 7 p.m., while Austin Brentwood travels to Florence for a 5:30 p.m. start.
At Temple, a quintet of area schools will take part in the first major meet of the season
Harker Heights, Coppers Cove, Salado, Lampasas and Gatesville will race along the course at Lions Park in the annual Temple Invitational.
The varsity girls begin at 7:30 a.m., and the varsity boys follow at 8:20 a.m.
Additionally, Ellison and Killeen will compete in a dual meet at Harker Heights’ Dana Peak Park. The race will starts at 8 a.m.
