Ellison's Aaron Crittenden and Harker Heights' Kailynn Denney tuned up for the District 12-6A meet with victories in the Belton Invitational on Thursday at Wildflower Country Club in Temple.

Crittendon topped the 64-boy field with a time of 16 minutes, 11.1 seconds on the 3-mile course. He finished just over a second ahead of Pflugerville Hendrickson's Kevin Castruita.

Zach Dennison (16:30.1) placed third for Belton, which had five runners in the top 11 and easily won the team title with 39 points, well ahead of Ellison's 84.

Also scoring points for the Tigers were Clayton Oaks (seventh, 16:58.1), David Duncan (eighth, 16:59.2), Zachary White (10th, 17:06.3) and freshman Briac Ybanez (11th, 17:06.3).

Killeen High's Gian Mikel Pulido (16:40.8) was sixth.

Thomas Evan (17:32.6) led Copperas Cove with a 15ht-place finish. Luis Mora (17:36.6) was 16th to lead Harker Heights.

Denney topped (19:23) Ellison's Kera Harvey by 19.5 seconds in the 58-runner girls field.

Abigail Cargile (20:03) was fourth for Belton. The Lady Tigers lost a tiebreaker with Pflugerville Hendrickson for the team title after both squads finished with 67 points. Temple was eight points behind in third.

Copperas Cove's Breonna McCarthy-Reese (20:51.1) finished sixth. Belton's Shannon Cook also medaled with an eight-place finish of 21:07.4.

All of the 12-6A schools except Shoemaker and Bryan participated in the meet.

The District 12-6A Meet is Thursday morning at 9 at Heritage Park in Belton.
