There will be another matchup of Killeen teams Friday night, when the Shoemaker Grey Wolves take on the Ellison Eagles at Leo Buckley Stadium for Shoemaker’s homecoming.
The Eagles are coming off a narrow 24-21 loss to the Harker Heights Knights on Thursday.
The Grey Wolves are heading into the game with confidence after taking care of business against the Killeen Kangaroos on Friday, winning 52-28.
The Eagles are 2-2 in District 12-6A play, while the Grey Wolves are 2-1 and a playoff spot is within the grasp for both of these teams.
Grey Wolves head coach Toby Foreman admits it the game will be extremely important.
“Big game next week,” Foreman said. “Ellison will be ready. They had a heartbreaking loss last night, they had an extra day to prepare for us, they were here scouting us tonight, and we expect their ‘A’ game where they almost beat Midway.
“And we gotta come out and play our ‘A’ game.”
Foreman also talked about the mindset during the week of preparation.
“Take it one rep at a time and win each day,” he said. “We gotta win each day.”
Foreman was also not happy with his team’s practices throughout last week and does not expect much from the game if their practice habits do not improve significantly.
“We had two bad days of practice,” he said, “and if we practice like that next week, Ellison will win.”
De’andre Exford spoke about the Grey Wolves’ mentality.
“It’s our homecoming, and we lost to them last year too,” he said. “We’re on a revenge tour right now.
“We gotta come back and get everybody that beat us last year.”
