Gatesville junior Luis Macias easily won the Glen Rose Invitational cross country meet on Wednesday.

He completed the 5K race at Squaw Valley Golf Course in 16 minutes, 31.63 seconds, nearly 41 seconds ahead of the runner-up. It was his second win in as many weeks.

The Hornets also won the team title in the three-team meet, scoring 25 points. Hillsboro (36) and Benbrook (75) were the other two teams.

Gatesville sophomore Carlo Martinez (17:15.32) finished third. Other Hornets in the top 10 were freshman Angel Armendariz (sixth, 18:44.75), freshman Cuyler Pearcy (seventh, 18:45.07) and senior Ramon Medina (eighth, 18:59.95).

Gatesville also won the girls meet, placing six in the top 10, led by Tasha Thoms' runner-up finish of 13:00.62 on the 3,200-meter circuit.

Hornet freshman Bethany Penrod (13:35.1) was third. At 5, 6 and 7, respectively, were Gatesville sophomores Lacy Campos (14:02.84), April Ramirez (14:06.21) and Kyla Hinojosa (14:09.47).

The Hornets tallies 18 points. Hillsboro had 53, and Benbrook 71.
