The Lampasas tennis team improved to 3-0 in District 6-4A on Sept. 25 with an 11-8 win over Brownwood.

LAMPASAS — Kailr Watson and Elias Arellano finished off a tight match with straight-sets victories and the Lampasas tennis team remained unbeaten in District 7-4A with an 11-8 win over Brownwood on Saturday.

On a perfect day for tennis, 10 of the matches between the evenly matched teams went to tiebreakers and the Badgers won six of them to help get the win.

"This was an incredible win for the kids," LHS coach Kenneth Peiser said. "Very close match today. Could have gone either way.

"The kids should be proud of how they played today. They fought threw their nerves and hung in there, even when behind. All of them played hard and gave all they had."

Four of the six doubles matches went to third-set tiebreakers.

Nate Champion and Tyler Ecker pulled out the only boys doubles win.

Sisters Allison and Abby Valdez won their tiebreaker 10-4.

Watson and Aubriana Flores easily won their match. Alyssa Sharkey and Amore Zapata won in straight sets after winning a first-set tiebreaker.

Caylin Clements and Luke Rogers won a second-set tiebreaker to keep their mixed doubles match doing, then won the third-set tiebreaker 10-8 to give Lampasas a 5-2 lead heading into singles matches.

Clements put up a quick point for the Badgers. Flores won a tiebreaker 10-6 for a win in the No. 3 spot. Zapata also won, but Lampasas was clinging to an 8-7 lead with four matches remaining.

Allison Valdez dropped her first set in a tiebreaker, but tallied to force a third-set tiebreaker, which she won 10-5.

Abby Valdez suffered a heart-breaking loss, fighting back from a 6-0 thrashing to force a third set tiebreaker. Down the entire way in the third set, she rallied for a 10-10 tie before falling 12-10.

Lampasas improved to 3-0 in 6-4A and remained tied with Gatesville.
