The Lampasas tennis team opened District 7-4A play on Thursday with a bang, sweeping the boys and girls doubles matches on the way to a 17-2 home victory over Stephenville.

The Badgers almost pulled off a complete doubles sweep, but Jordan Venegas and Loretta Hodges lost a tiebreaker after splitting the first two sets.

Luke Rogers, Clayton Shaw, Clyde Ashfield and James Vasquez won in boys singles to clinch the 10th point and the match.

Tyler Ecker won in a tiebreaker and Lampasas (6-2) swept the girls singles matches for the final margin.

"The girls are playing good right now and are fired up for our district matches," LHS coach Kenneth Peiser said.

Only a tiebreaker loss kept the Badger boys from a singles sweep.

Lampasas travels to Brownwood on Thursday.
