Defending Class 4A state champion Jaci McGregor began her final season at Salado with another victory, helping the Lady Eagles win the Brownwood Invitational on Wednesday.
McGregor finished the 3,200-meter course in 13 minutes, 22 seconds. Junior Anna Lesley was just 11 seconds behind and placed third. Ellie Mescher (14:10) was 10th and also earned a medal.
Other runners for the Lady Eagles were Kate Neas (12th, 14:13), Avery Fossum (13th, 14:16), Lydia Craig (19th, 14:36), Natalie Burleson (23rd, 14:41), Lily Loughheed (41st, 15:55), Lydia Lesley (46th, 16:15) and Allyson Gouveia (50th, 16:33).
"This was a good first meet for the Lady Eagles," coach Corey Baird said. "We saw where we are at and what we need to work on in the weeks to come."
Salado finished 10th in the state last season and all five runners -- McGregor, Lesley, Mescher, Neas and Fossum -- are back. The Lady Eagles will run at the McGregor meet on Saturday.
Because of the coronavirus pandemic, high school cross country meets in Texas this season are limited to eight schools and a maximum field of 80 runners.
