FORT HOOD — Fort Hood officials released the name of a soldier who died of an apparent gunshot wound Wednesday in Peru, Ind.

Pvt. Kevin Paulino, 24, from Bronx, N.Y., entered active-duty service in May 2016 as an infantryman. He was assigned to 2nd Squadron, 3rd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, since September 2016.

His awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal and Army Service Ribbon.

Circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation, Fort Hood officials said.
