Killeen Independent School District is scheduled to open the new Nolan Middle School in Harker Heights in the fall of 2020, which will require the creation of a new attendance zone.

In recognition of this, the district has scheduled several public meetings to accommodate questions and discussion of the plan.

In addition to serving students living in its new attendance zone, the new Nolan Middle School will also house the district’s second middle school STEM program.

The new school will be located on the east side of the school district, off Warriors Path in Harker Heights.

Currently, all middle school STEM students attend Roy J. Smith Middle School. The district will host a total of seven community meetings and would like to encourage parents to attend so they can give input on the proposal.

Over 2,000 middle school students will be impacted by the proposed rezoning.

Following is a schedule of the public hearings:

Tuesday, Jan. 7, at 6 p.m. in the Eastern Hills Middle School cafeteria

Wednesday, Jan. 8, at 6 p.m. in the Union Grove Middle School cafeteria

Thursday, Jan. 9, at 6 p.m. in the Liberty Hill Middle School cafeteria

Monday, Jan. 13, at 6 p.m. in the Manor Middle School cafeteria

Wednesday, Jan. 15, at 6 p.m. in the Nolan Middle School cafeteria

Thursday, Jan. 16, at 6 p.m. in the Rancier Middle School cafeteria
