A motor vehicle caught on fire in the Killeen Independent School District Career Center parking lot Tuesday morning, according to Killeen ISD spokesperson Shannon Rideout.

The vehicle was identified as an older model black pick up truck.

Rideout informed Herald officials of the news over the phone on Tuesday morning.

The Career Center, located near the intersection of Stagecoach Road and Trimmier Road in south Killeen, was temporarily evacuated as the Killeen Fire Department has responded.

Classes are now back in session.

The fire started after students taking a vehicle mechanics class were took the vehicle on a test drive after working on the vehicle, according to Killeen Fire Department investigating officer Chris Mahlstedt.

No injuries were reported, as the students were able to flee the vehicle prior to the flames consuming the cabin of the vehicle.
