Statewide gas prices are up 2 cents from last week and 10 cents from this time last year, according to AAA Texas. The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel is $1.93.

Killeen residents may pay less than that, depending on where they fill up. Saturday evening, Stripes at 2200 E. Stan Schlueter Loop had gas at $1.85 a gallon, according to H-E-B Plus! at 2511 Trimmier Road and the Wal-Mart at 2900 Clear Creek Road had gas for the same price. The Shell at 1109 S. Fort Hood St. had gas for $1.86 a gallon.

Drivers in Copperas Cove paid $1.82 a gallon if they headed to the Alon at 502 N. First St. on Saturday evening. The Corner Store at 1102 S. Farm-to-Market 116 and the Stripes at 1262 U.S. Highway 190 all had gas for $1.85 a gallon.

Harker Heights had the cheapest prices in the area Saturday evening. The Murphy USA at 2010 Heights Drive had gas at $1.79 a gallon. Rudy’s at 5621 E. Central Texas Expressway listed a gallon of gas at $1.81, and Sam’s Club at 600 W. Central Texas Expressway had it for $1.82.

Texas is among the 10 cheapest states in the country to buy gas, AAA reports.

“Texas drivers are paying about $27 to fill up a 14-gallon tank, which is the size of an average family vehicle. Texans are paying about $3 less than the national average per fill-up,” said AAA Texas and New Mexico representative Doug Shupe said in a news release.
