COPPERAS COVE — The Copperas Cove Chamber of Commerce is making some changes for the 25th edition of the city’s annual Krist Kindl Markt.
The chamber is moving the event from its traditional location in downtown Copperas Cove to City Park.
Chamber President Alicia Menard said earlier this year the move is designed to give the event room to grow.
“There’s just not a lot of room downtown to do that,” Menard said in September.
Cove residents had voiced concerns the move to the park meant the chamber would begin charging an admission fee for Krist Kindl. Menard said there will be no fees for parking or admission during the event.
Krist Kindl will still feature plenty of vendors selling food, Christmas crafts and other handmade articles that can be used as gifts during the holidays. But the vendors are just part of a much bigger celebration that will take place over four days.
Things will kick off Thursday with a tree-lighting event starting at 6 p.m. in City Park. There will be live entertainment, refreshments and a variety of activities for children and adults, including an appearance by Santa.
The tree lighting — scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday — will also offer the first chance to check out the ice skating rink that will be part of this year’s event. The rink, which will charge a fee, will be open from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday.
On Friday, Krist Kindl activities will begin at 4 p.m., with an opening ceremony scheduled for 6 p.m. In addition to the ice skating rink and market vendors, there will be photos with Santa, pony rides, a snow show, a holiday light display and live entertainment.
On Saturday, activities will begin at 10 a.m. Vendors will begin selling to the public at that time. That is also the scheduled start time for the annual Krist Kindl pageant. The ice skating rink will open at noon. Saturday’s activities will end at 11 p.m.
Another change from last year is the return of the lighted Christmas parade. Saturday’s parade will travel down Avenue D from Copperas Cove High School to the Cove Terrace Shopping Center. The parade is set to begin at 6 p.m.
On Sunday, Krist Kindl activities will begin at 10 a.m. Vendors will close their booths at 3 p.m., though the skating rink will operate until 5 p.m.
City Park and the Civic Center are located at 1206 W. Avenue B in Copperas Cove.
