The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas was $2.20 in the Killeen-Temple-Fort Hood area on Saturday.

That’s 1 cent less than last week, and 24 cents more than this time last year, according to AAA.

Killeen prices

In Killeen, the cheapest gas was selling for $2.05 per gallon Saturday at the Walmart Neighborhood Market at 3801 E. Stan Schlueter Loop, according to Four other stations were selling gas at $2.08.

Harker Heights prices

In Harker Heights on Saturday, Sam’s Club at 600 W. Central Texas Expressway was selling the cheapest gas at $2.02 per gallon, according to GasBuddy. The Murphy USA at 2010 Heights Drive and H-E-B on Indian Trail were selling gas at $2.05 per gallon.

Copperas Cove prices

In Copperas Cove on Saturday, the Murphy USA at 2712 E. U.S. 190 near Gibson Street was selling gas at $2.07 per gallon along with two 7-Eleven stations, according to GasBuddy reports.

Fort Hood Prices

The AAFES at 48830 Clear Creek Road and Santa Fe Avenue was selling gas at $2.08 on Saturday, according to

State prices

The statewide gas price average in Texas is $2.23 for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. That price is one cent less than as on this day last week and is 20 cents more per gallon compared to this day last year. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in Odessa are paying the most on average at $2.45 while drivers in Tyler are paying the least at $2.14 per gallon.

National prices

The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $2.55, which is two cents less when compared to this day last week and 18 cents more than the price per gallon at this same time last year.

Funny how you keep saying prices are steady or going down when every station in my area raised their prices in anticipation of the Christmas holiday. Prices in southwest Copperas Cove have gone up a minimum of .04¢ per gallon and at most stations more than that.

Just proves the old saying, "if you don't read the newspaper you're uninformed. If you do read the newspaper you're misinformed."
