Harker Heights — Resident Susan Coen received a colorful surprise on Black Friday after she heard a strange noise coming from her backyard in the 2200 block of Heights Drive.

When she went outside to have a look, she saw a macaw — a type of parrot — perched in a tree.

“He was in our peach tree camouflaged pretty good, actually,” Coen said.

She said she reported the bird to Harker Heights officials, but was told animal control officers were not working Friday and couldn’t come out.

A few hours later, the bird was gone, Coen said. After the Killeen Daily Herald posted a photo of the bird online, a Killeen man called the Herald and claimed he was the bird’s owner. He said the bird’s name is Rocky.
