Temple Police SWAT team members were called to a south side neighborhood Thursday afternoon in reference to a call about a man in mental distress.
At about 3 p.m. Thursday, Temple Police Department officers were dispatched to the 6000 block of Stonehaven Drive in the Echo Village neighborhood, a few blocks east of Raye-Allen Elementary School.
“When officers arrived, a 40-year-old male was threatening to commit suicide with a gun,” Temple police spokeswoman Nohely Mackowiak said. “The ordeal lasted about 45 minutes before the male surrendered peacefully. “
The man was taken to a local hospital for evaluation, she said.
