With Thanksgiving coming in a few days, motorists will have more money in their pockets after a fill-up than they did last Turkey Day.
Drivers in Texas are paying an average of $1.88 a gallon, 21 cents under the national average, according to AAA’s data on Saturday.
Texas’ average price is 76 cents less than the average a year ago.
The national average stands at $2.09, also as of Saturday. GasBuddy.com has the average price at $1.86.
Regarding the major metropolitan areas in Texas surveyed by AAA, Austin-San Marcos has the highest average for a gallon of regular unleaded gas at $1.92, while Amarillo drivers are paying the least at $1.69 per gallon.
Locally, according to GasBuddy late Saturday afternoon, the Sam’s Club at 600 W. Central Texas Expressway & Memory Lane in Harker Heights had the lowest gas at $1.68.
Elsewhere in Heights, three places showed gas at $1.73: the Murphy USA store at 2010 Heights Drive near Commercial Drive, the H-E-B at 601 Indian Trail Drive near East Central Texas Expressway and the Wal-Mart at 960 E. FM 2410 and Verna Lee Road.
A Corner Store location at 601 E. Central Texas Expressway and Indian Trail had gas at $1.77.
In Killeen, the H-E-B at 2511 Trimmier Road and Lowes Boulevard had the lowest price of gas at $1.76. Three places had gas at $1.79: Wal-Mart at 3404 W. Stan Schlueter Loop and Bunny Trail, the Corner Store at 4807 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. near East Stan Schlueter Loop and the Exxon at 907 N. Gray St. and Rancier Avenue.
In Copperas Cove, the Murphy USA store 2712 E. U.S. Highway 190 near Gibson Street showed the lowest gas at $1.72 a gallon. Two places in Cove showed gas at $1.73: the H-E-B at 2990-A E US-190 near Robert Griffin III and the Stripes at 1262 U.S. 190 and East Avenue D.
Also in Cove, the Corner Store at 1102 S. Farm-to-Market 116 and U.S. 190 and the 7-Eleven at 2124 E. U.S. 190 and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive had prices at $1.74.
