Reader says KISD hurting students’ education by building large schools

To the Editor:

The Institute for Local Self-Reliance states that one of the most effective ways to improve student achievement and curb school violence is to reduce the size of our schools.

Several of our local schools fall short in student achievement and are in danger of failing according to state guidelines, yet our district has decided that building mega-elementary schools is the way to go.

We are closing local neighborhood schools and these larger schools. This goes against all research!

I’m all for getting rid of portables but there must be a better cost-effective way to achieve that.

Maybe we need to truly have community involvement and listen when it comes to public hearings about the bond issue — rather than holding them and then doing whatever the leaders of the district want to do!

PLEASE stay informed and vote NO on the next bond resolution!
