To the Editor:

It is now 18 minutes after midnight and the fireworks — which are illegal in the city of Harker Heights — are being fired like there is no tomorrow.

My wife and I have a rescued dog that has difficulties with fireworks. We have tried everything to calm him; however, on this evening people start shooting off fireworks as soon as it gets dark.

I believe this is illegal; however, those of you who are firing off the fireworks really do not care. After all, these rules do not apply to you or your family.

Our vet advised us that there is nothing they can do other than basically giving the dog a major sedative to deal with the noise.

I think these laws were made not only for scaring animals but causing distress for humans also. I realize those of you firing at will couldn’t care less.

I am sure some of you are law and order folks, with the exception of setting off fireworks within our city limits.

You set a great example for your kids about obeying laws.
